I was excited Ao—Rola is getting an episode of her own. While it’s all formulaic and sadly very predictable, it’s a good episode about Rola and how she do things… like cementing the idea that she’s the Kiriya Aoi of Aikatsu Stars!. No, I’m not that traumatized! ;_;
An audition coming up and whoever wins will become the poster girl or representative for an ice cream company’s new line of ice cream foodstuffs. That’s what I understand, at least. Did you know I’m not a sugoi gaijin-sensei who is fluent in Japanese like Ken-sama?
After seeing the announcement from their Aikatsu Mobile, Rola takes up the challenge. But obviously, not everything is very easy because she’s not the only one who is joining this audition and Rola must find creative ways to stand out among the rest. Yeah, you can pretty much guess what problems Rola must face in order to win.
We soon learn Rola came from a long line of professionals from composers, singers and idols. So this explains her smugness and confidence because even though she’s not a seasoned veteran, she has experience in singing and dancing thanks to her parents.
Why is the father always the typical short haired glasses guy? Oh and that’s not how genetics work, Japan. Unless making designer babies are common in the Aikatsu world. And if this were the case, M4’s parents were poor or they all conveniently designed their kids to look like one boring guy.
AND YOU DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES AND NOT LOOK AT THE CAMERA WHEN TAKING SOMETHING IMPORTANT LIKE A FAMILY PICTURE DAMMIT.
Oh where was I?
Rola is concerned on what to do with the audition and how to be one step ahead. This is the entire episode. Yume and Koharu is helping out Rola in her audition by, well, make her stand out. They tried different styles that could potentially give Rola the edge, Yume soon notice that everything they’re doing felt off. Rola ignored it, went to the interview only to get shot down after an interviewer said Rola looked like she was just forcing herself.
You need to work hard if you want ice cream, Yume.
After a few let down moments, and some opinions and encouragement from Yume, Rola soon realized that by being yourself is the best. As the elder man-mentor-person she conveniently bumped into said: “Simple is za best.” No, he wasn’t German.
Rola’s single wasn’t announced or revealed in Japan, so they had to reuse AN OUT OF PLACE SONG FOR HER IMPORTANT AUDITION INSTEAD. I mean, look at her and her monotone style dress while singing a pop song. This was my least favorite part of the episode.
“Don to sink. Fill!”
You know it’s funny. I said that Aikatsu Stars! is having an identity crisis by doing something new and when the show does go back to the usual thing, I criticize it for being formulaic. Episode 7 is very predictable and it sucked I predicted the ending, but still, it was a fun ride and it’s definitely fun watching Rola, the objectively best girl in the anime.
This episode is way too similar to Aoi’s Pon-Pon Crepe episode and most of the time I feel like I’m watching the same episode with names and camera angles were changed.
Rola is the 2nd main character in the anime.
Rola is auditioning for a sweets company.
Rola eventually won and is now their poster girl/representative.
If that’s not enough, then how do you explain this:
This is her coord.
And this is Aoi’s.
I don’t mind the obvious callbacks and references at all. And it’s good to see the main character has a good partner, a partner who has personality, a capable idol, and a supportive friend. I highly doubt Koharu will fill that role. Imagine Hikami Sumire, a main character in Aikatsu! season 3, had actual personality.

I think I missed the memo here. Why is Rola living on her own?
