Uh, well… It was a busy week fansubbing Sono Hanabira OVA BD version, translating an Aikatsu! doujinshi and other stuff offline, so I wasn’t able to make episode reviews. And with an upcoming Drama CD translation and another project, I’ll try to catch up somehow.
Oh and if you hate yourself, please follow me on Twitter. Aside from gouging your eyes out at my banters, the more people I interact with, the higher the chance I’ll get a response and input. Lazy Lily Fansubs has only a handful of active people and, yeah, I need second opinions on things.
To the review:
Yep, she smelled Yozora from a mile away.
It’s been months since the freshmen enrolled at Four Stars Academy and now it’s the freshmen of Moon Beauty Class’s turn to shine. Kasumi Yozora has announced a fashion show for the freshmen and Koharu doesn’t sound too thrilled.
During their routine balancing lessons, Koharu bumped shoulders with new girl Kasumi Mahiru… who is related to Yozora. Clearly she is because both share the same surname. It wasn’t explained in this episode though.
Koharu being the friendly type approached Mahiru and gave her some candy. And after calling each other using their first names, the two got along and Koharu earned another friend.
Koharu’s classmates were surprised she was able to talk to a girl who seemingly too mature to talk to.
Having little to no self-confidence and is even considering not joining, she weighs her options. And this is where I realize Koharu is a good character and is certainly more likeable than Akari Generation’s Hikami Sumire.
When I first saw Koharu, I was like “Oh great, another Sumire clone, and I’ll be bored to tears again” and dismissed her character on day one. Everything about Koharu was just boring and uninteresting with that soft-spoken voice, has the looks of a mopey person, and no eye-catching personality. I guess I understand there are fans for this kind of character, but clearly I’m not a fan.
Don’t get me wrong, I was very interested in Sumire because she has everything I like: Hair style, hair color, eyes, etc., but I was disappointed when she opened her mouth and can’t express more than 3 facial expressions. I now respect Sumire to a degree after she got good episodes. Sadly it took me the latter part of the 2nd half of Season 3 to actually like the girl.
This wasn’t the case with Koharu. Episode 8 really showed her personality and capability. It’s so rich with character development that I ended up liking her. Koharu is the better Sumire. She still soft-spoken and and can only do a few expressions, but at least I know there’s actual personality behind that face.
Saving Yozora x Koharu art is no longer a guilty pleasure.
Fashion Show featuring Mikur—Mahiru and Koharu.
New song (thank god) and I love the choreography. You can’t take your eyes off Yozora when she shakes her hips like that (oh god).
It was definitely a fun episode and I like Koharu now. Bandai Namco probably realized that beauty isn’t everything and Yume needs good characters like Koharu and Rola to improve and develop. And while Koharu isn’t as beautiful as Sumire, Koharu has more color inside than Sumire’s frozen facade.
Rola is still the best girl.
