Poor Pvt. Pyle-chan. ;_;7
A couple of days late because I was busy with Photokatsu. I LITERALLY (and figuratively) reached 20,000 points in less than 3 days. Yeah, that’s how obsessed I am. Now that I have acquired all items and got some sweet SR cards, I’m back to review another Aikatsu Stars! episode. Isn’t that swell?
2nd term has started and you know what that means! It’s time to work on your debut album using these CD-whatchamacallit-thingies! However, there’s a catch: Only one idol will win the opportunity to have their picture printed on the cover. And sing songs, or whatever. I don’t care, Aikatsu! never cared for giving the music a story. Anyway…
Since only one will be selected, rivalry between Yume and Rola starts brewing. Will Rola win again or will Yume take the spot? Will this affect their friendship?
And why is Koharu so darn cute?
This is a very good episode focusing on Yume and Rola’s rivalry. Despite them being friends, they’re still formidable rivals when it comes to Aikatsu!. When one is working hard, the other one will work harder. This kind of harmony what makes rivals a good element in idol anime and I’m glad they’re not chickening out like Dream Academy.
What I like about the episode is how well-animated it was and the key animators found the time to give each girl some expressive and funny reactions. From Rola giving that grin, that almost-lipped-synced reply by Koharu and Yume’s dumbstruck faces. I love it.
This is a very familiar sight.
Aside from Yume and Rola, Anna got some screen time and the episode like, you know, showed her skills as a teacher. The girls went through an intense training regime prior to the audition and the purpose of it was very creative. But please… stop using “You-tachi,” Anna. Stick to “Baby-tachi.” I mean… Baby-tachi = My babies? You-tachi = Yous? :V
One thing I didn’t like about Aikatsu! is not giving music a story, a purpose in the anime. I’ve talked about this and I don’t want to repeat myself all over again. Bottom line is, this guy right here is the very personification of this problem. At least he is, for now. Aside from that, he’s in cahoots with the headmaster, and we all know the headmaster wants to rule the world using idols as weapons of mass destruc—where was I?
Yeah, I know, Japanese Idols are way different and they have their own quirks that makes them unique and focuses more on appeal and looks, or something. The producer, as far as I know, is the ultimate decision maker for idols — they pick matching songs, set up events, etc. The problem with this is, the girls are using songs they didn’t write or songs that were picked from a catalogue of songs written by someone they didn’t know.
It would be great the winner of this audition takes part in, at least, selecting the songs they want to sing. It’s their damn debut single and it’s best to sing a song that they love or wrote or has involved in its selection/creation. No one, and I mean, NO ONE will appreciate the Etude of Radiance if Ichigo wasn’t involved in its creation.
It’s still a good and emotional episode with great pacing, good Anna characterization, actual rivalry elements and well-made animations. Episode 21 is one of my favorite Aikatsu Stars! episodes.
