Aikatsu Stars! Episode 27 Review: An Open Door

I had trouble understanding 60% of the dialogue, but I think I got the general gist of the story. Yeah, I’m still not good at understanding Japanese, but hey, watching anime raw and translating doujinshi is a way for me to learn. Am I getting good at it? I dunno. I mean, I can understand most of the dialogue, but I stumble when a character uses archaic words or words not commonly used.

Thankfully the visual and audio cues gave me the needed context. Most of the time.

With that said, my review may end up being short, and, uh…

The harem anime genre and horrible male characters

We released the BD version of the Juuden-chan specials, and I was reminded how great this anime was.

I literally (or figuratively) grew up with anime. My first recorded memory was me getting up on a warm afternoon, ran to the next room, grabbed a chair, reached for the TV, turned on the knob to channel 12 and saw the opening sequence of Voltes V. It’s kinda amusing to think my first ever memory was me getting up just in time for some super robot anime.

Throughout my childhood, I was watching shounen and mecha anime all the time and I never saw slice of life anime or even harem anime when I was younger. I tend to favor mecha anime more because I love science fiction as a kid and funnily enough, it was mecha that introduced me to romance anime in the form of Vision of Escaflowne, an anime I consider my favorite of all time.

There were romance-themed anime like Sailor Moon, Fushigi Yuugi, etc., but I didn’t like the stories. It was Vision of Escaflowne that got me interested in romance. Van Fanel was a great guy with a troubled past and carrying the burden of his fallen kingdom Fanelia, but I know he deserves the heroine Kanzaki Hitomi. I was actually an Allen Schezar x Hitomi fan and I was all giddy when the two kissed, but in the end, Allen considered Hitomi as a younger sister, so… I gave up.

Once I got older and got exposed to nudity thanks to Project A-ko, and had access to bittorrent and internet, I had the freedom to watch anime whenever I want. I was young back then and to satisfy my sexual urges as a youth, I watched anime catered to those needs. Here comes the harem genre.

Macross Delta: Polygonal Love

This is not an actual review. I’m gonna share my thoughts after watching Macross Delta not too recently ago.

I watched Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Macross Plus, Macross Zero, Macross Frontier and Macross Delta, so you could say I’m a fan of the series. I did try watching Macross 7 once, but I stopped after the anime starts recycling scenes from the very first episode. I mean, what? Gundam Wing didn’t do that, so I doubted the quality of Macross 7.

Anyway, I’m here to talk about the romance side of the series, my favorite part of the show… aside from the mechs.

Aikatsu Stars! Episode 26 Review: New and Improved?

Aikatsu Stars! tried a lot of things to make them stand out like putting male idols, more drama, dubstep music, and so on. Something tells me these changes were also a part of an experiment to see how the fans adapt. It turns out some of them were bad ideas and will probably be scrapped.

There were couple of instances of this happening in OG Aikatsu! like the friendship “will be put to the test” thing mentioned by Aoi, Orihime and Ran. What happened to it? Scrapped in favor of a more wholesome and drama-free approach. Dream Academy was supposed to be a rival school and in the end the school became buddy-buddies with Starlight. Maybe because they don’t want the fans avoiding buying the DreAca cards, or something.

We’re now at the 2nd half of the series and we get to see the new OP and ED themes. The changes are too early to tell, but judging by the OP and ED, Aikatsu Stars! is bringing back some elements from OG Aikatsu!.

That’s what I think at least. On to the review.

Aikatsu! Photo on Stage!! Mobile Game – The first few months

Been meaning to make a review-first-impressions-like post for the mobile app game Aikatsu! Photo on Stage!! or Photokatsu! for short, but I decided to put it on hold until I gathered enough cards and experience of my time with the game.

I’m gonna talk about my impressions with the game and also talk about some other stuff that had happened. So yeah.

Aikatsu Stars! Episodes 24-25 Review Marathon

Oh hey, another review marathon because I was a bit busy last week. What did I do? Well, we, in case you didn’t know, I manage two websites and we recently translated a doujin.

Give it a read when you have the time and if you’re an Akari x Sumire fan, you’re gonna love this one. Lewd warning, though.

Now then, I’m not gonna spoil everything, so don’t expect me to post delicious screenshots of a certain supporting character from episode 25. And as usual, I’m gonna be brief and direct with these reviews.

Aikatsu Stars! Episode 23 Review: Silver Lily

Another day, another episode to review. I won’t go in-depth with this because there’s really nothing much to talk about unless I spoil everything. The episode is fun, though.

I had trouble writing this review because I have a metric ton of other things to do. I just can’t keep up, but I’ll try to make this review somewhat readable.

Aikatsu Stars! Episode 22 Review: How to not self-produce 101

When I was young, around the time MTV actually meant “Music Television”, I was rather picky when it comes to artists I follow, and with one exception, I never followed the local artists. The reason for that is they’re only popular because of their looks and some okay-ish singing skills.

There was a popular teen actress promoting her new debut album on TV. While it was nice she’s making a CD single for her fans to enjoy, what she said really turned me off. She said “the CD contains revivals of popular songs” and that killed my interest of ever checking her CD out. “Where is your original song? It’s your debut single, surely you have something original to sing.” I said to myself.

It’s not even an isolated case, 90% of these singers always say their CDs are a collection of revivals. This lack of originality and lack of passion to sing made me hate my local artists and throughout my childhood, the only local artists I cared for was the Eraserheads. Oh yeah, Boyzone is my most-hated boy band in the 90s.

And yes, this is relevant in my review of episode 22.

Aikatsu Stars! Episode 21 Review: Full Metal Jacket (Literally)

[Ohys-Raws] Aikatsu Stars! - 21 (TX 1280x720 x264 AAC).mp4_snapshot_07.08_[2016.09.03_19.24.12]

“Are you quitting on me? Well, are you?!”

Poor Pvt. Pyle-chan. ;_;7

A couple of days late because I was busy with Photokatsu. I LITERALLY (and figuratively) reached 20,000 points in less than 3 days. Yeah, that’s how obsessed I am. Now that I have acquired all items and got some sweet SR cards, I’m back to review another Aikatsu Stars! episode. Isn’t that swell?
